Understanding Eyelift Aftercare
Whether you choose an upper or lower eyelift, good aftercare makes all the difference to your results.
An eyelift, or blepharoplasty, is a gentle procedure, but your eyes are delicate.
That means a little patience and care in the weeks after surgery goes a long way.
Below, we break down what to expect for each type.

Upper Eyelift Aftercare
An Upper Eyelift removes excess skin from the upper lids to give a fresher, more open look.
The procedure itself usually takes about 45 minutes under local anaesthetic, so recovery is often quicker than people imagine.
Here is what your aftercare typically involves:
- Stitches removed after 1 week in clinic by Mr Lambe.
- Two post-op follow-up appointments so we can check you are healing beautifully.
- Around 2 weeks off work for desk-based roles.
- No driving for roughly 3 weeks.
- No exercise for around 8 weeks to protect the healing area.
- No make-up for 1 week, or until fully healed.
- Keep the area dry while it heals, sticking to baths rather than showers over the wounds.
Some bruising and swelling is completely normal, as the eye area is so delicate.
This settles quickly, and most patients cover the worst of it with make-up after about a week.
Gentlemen often pop on sunglasses for a few days.
Lower Eyelift Aftercare
A Lower Eyelift targets bags and puffiness beneath the eyes, leaving you looking rested and refreshed. Recovery follows a similar pattern to the upper procedure.
Your aftercare includes:
- Icepacks and painkillers to keep you comfortable in the early days.
- Stitches removed at around 1 week.
- Two follow-up appointments with Mr Lambe.
- About 2 weeks off work, with no driving for roughly 3 weeks.
- No exercise for around 8 weeks.
- No make-up for 1 week, and keep the area dry until healed.
Again, expect some bruising and swelling. It fades steadily, and our team is here whenever you have a question.
Support You Can Count On
What truly sets our aftercare apart is the personal support.
Our Clinic Manager, Jayne, is on hand throughout your recovery.
As one recent patient shared: “Jayne provided me with post-op aftercare info prior to the surgery and she contacted me each day the first week after surgery to see how I was.” Another said simply, “It was a breeze!”
