Upper vs Lower Blepharoplasty: Which Eyelift Is Right for You?
Tired-looking eyes can make you feel older than you are.
If heavy upper lids or puffy under-eye bags are bothering you, an eyelift could be the change you’ve been waiting for.

But first, let’s clear up a common question: what’s the difference between an Upper Blepharoplasty and a Lower Blepharoplasty?
What Is an Upper Blepharoplasty?
An Upper Eyelift, medically known as Upper Blepharoplasty, is a procedure that improves the look of your upper eyelids.
It removes excess skin that can droop over the eye, sometimes even affecting your vision.
Many patients tell us they can see more easily afterwards, as there’s no longer loose skin resting on the eye.
Others simply love that friends and family say they look younger and more rested.
What Is a Lower Blepharoplasty?
A Lower Eyelift, or Lower Blepharoplasty, focuses on the area beneath your eyes.
Skin and fat are carefully removed or repositioned to smooth away the bags and puffiness that can make you look tired.
Lower Blepharoplasty patients often say they look more youthful and refreshed, as if they’ve finally had a proper night’s sleep.

The Key Differences
While both treatments target the delicate eye area, they work in different ways and involve different procedures.
Upper Blepharoplasty is a relatively quick and simple operation.
It usually takes around 45 minutes, is carried out under local anaesthetic, and can be done as a day case.
The wounds are stitched with a fine running stitch, removed in clinic about a week later.
Scars sit neatly in the natural lid crease, so they’re very well hidden.
Lower Blepharoplasty is a more involved procedure.
It takes roughly 2 to 2.5 hours and includes a one-night hospital stay.
Because it works on a trickier area, recovery needs a little more care, with icepacks and painkillers helping you through those first few days.
Recovery and Results
For both treatments, some bruising and swelling is normal, as the eyes are so delicate.
This tends to settle quickly. Most patients cover any remaining bruising with makeup after about a week, and men often pop on sunglasses for a few days.
You’ll typically need around two weeks off work for a desk-based role, roughly three weeks before driving, and about eight weeks before returning to exercise.
Whatever you choose, Mr Lambe and our Clinic Manager, Jayne, will support you at every step.
Are You Suitable?
Not everyone is a candidate for an eyelift.
Generally, you should have a BMI under 32, be a non-smoker (and non-vaper), be in good health, not be diabetic, and not be taking anti-coagulant medication.
During your consultation, Mr Lambe will assess your eyes and eyebrow position to recommend the right approach for you.
Cost and Finance
Both the Upper Eyelift and Lower Eyelift start from £3,995.
This is a fully inclusive, transparent price with no hidden charges. We also offer flexible finance options, so you can spread the cost into manageable monthly payments.
