What Is an Abdominoplasty / Tummy Tuck?
A Tummy Tuck is the everyday name for what surgeons call an Abdominoplasty.
It’s a popular procedure for both men and women who want a flatter, firmer stomach.
During surgery, we remove excess skin from around the tummy.
We can also tighten the underlying muscles and combine the operation with liposuction to refine the final shape.
Many people reach a point where loose skin or separated muscles simply won’t respond to the gym.
An Abdominoplasty removes what you cannot shift on your own.
There are two main options. A full Tummy Tuck lifts the skin right up to the ribs, letting us tighten the muscles and remove loose skin across the whole tummy.
A mini Tummy Tuck suits those with only a small excess in the lower tummy, meaning a smaller scar and a quicker recovery.
Are You a Good Candidate?
An Abdominoplasty is not a substitute for weight loss, so it’s best to be at the weight you plan to stay.
You should ideally be in good health, a non-smoker, and have finished having children.
A Tummy Tuck may not be right for you if you have a BMI over 32, smoke or vape, are in poor health, or take blood-thinning medication.
If you’re on any medication, do check with your GP first.
The best way to know for sure is a proper, honest assessment with our team.
Step 1 – Your Consultation
Your journey begins with a friendly phone call.
When you contact us, you’ll first speak with our Clinic Manager, Jayne, who answers your questions and arranges your appointment with Mr Lambe.
At your consultation, Mr Lambe will listen to your concerns and discuss the best options for your body and your goals.
He’ll explain what can realistically be achieved and make sure you leave feeling fully informed, with no pressure to decide.
After your consultation, you’ll receive a full, transparent quotation.
Step 2 – Surgery Day
On the day, allow plenty of travel time and bring someone who can drive you home afterwards.
You’ll be booked in, shown to your room, and see Mr Lambe and the team before your surgery begins.
The procedure takes around 2.5 hours and is carried out under top-rated anaesthesia for a safe, calm experience.
Most patients stay in hospital for 1–2 nights, depending on how quickly you’re up and moving.
Step 3 – Recovery
Recovery is gradual, and we guide you through every stage. Here’s what to expect:
- Time off work: 2–3 weeks
- Driving: none for around 2 weeks
- Exercise: none for around 6 weeks
- Heavy lifting: none for 10 weeks, so arrange help at home, especially with young children
- Abdominal support: wear the support garment provided for 6 weeks to improve your result
Gentle walking each hour helps your recovery and lowers the risk of clots.
You may need to bend slightly at the waist for the first couple of weeks, then gradually straighten up.
Your final result becomes clear at around 6 months, once any swelling has fully settled.
The Results
You’ll enjoy a much flatter, more toned looking stomach.
The scar runs low from hip to hip and is carefully placed to sit within your swimwear or underwear line.
Over time, it fades from pink to a thin, silvery line.
Seeing genuine outcomes helps you picture what’s possible.
