What is a ‘Mounjaro Makeover’

Mounjaro, Ozempic and other GLP-1s are very popular and effective in reducing body weight.

However, after achieving their goal weight, patients often complain they are left with sagging and excess skin, which leaves them looking and feeling deflated.

A ‘Mounjaro Makeover’ is a combination of cosmetic surgeries to tailor this excess skin, refine your silhouette and achieve a new, improved shape!

Choose YOUR Combination:-

  • Breasts – breast augmentation (with breast implants), breast implant exchange, breast reduction or breast uplift
  • Body – skin tailoring to arms and/or thighs, liposuction, a tummy tuck
  • Face – facelift or eyelift procedures

You Should Not Have a 'Mounjaro Makeover' procedure if...

You have a BMI of over 30, are in poor health, are taking anti-coagulant medication, or are diabetic.

As this requires you having multiple procedures under general anaesthetic (ie asleep), it is important that you are in good health to start with.

If you are on any medications that may affect your wounds healing, like steroids or immunosuppressants, then multiple operations at the same time may not be suitable for you.

If you are a smoker, or use a vape containing nicotine, then you should stop for at least 3 weeks pre-op and for at least 6 weeks post-op.

There is a very good reason for this advice, and you will need to be honest and disciplined with yourself and your Surgeon.

Smoking and vaping significantly delay tissue repair and healing of your wounds in general. They do this by restricting the blood flow and the quality of oxygen in the blood as it is delivered around your body. They also impair the amount of oxygen in the blood sent to heal you.

Added to this, they impair collagen production, which is one of the building blocks required to heal your skin.

Finally, nicotine and associated chemicals lower your white blood cell activity, increasing the risk of post-op wound infections and tissue death (necrosis).

By continuing to smoke and/or vape, you will significantly impact the time it takes for your body to heal and also increase your risk of blood clots and chest problems.

We can all agree that you need to give your body the best chance to heal for the best results!

What is a 'Mounjaro Makeover'?

A ‘Mounjaro Makeover’ is a combination of procedures designed to tailor your skin and alter fat distribution following significant weight loss.

The tummy area is most often treated with a full abdominoplasty or tummy tuck.

Women’s breasts often sag or lose volume with overall weight loss, so we can improve these with a breast uplift, breast implants, or even a breast reduction, if necessary.

In addition to these procedures, liposuction can be performed at the same time and is often used to treat any stubborn areas, such as the arms, inner thighs or flanks (outer thighs).

Finally, there may be some changes in skin on and around your face such which can be improved with an upper eyelift (an upper blepharoplasty) or even a facelift.

All these areas can be thoroughly discussed at your face-to-face consultation.

How Long Will I Need Help for After Surgery?

Generally, you will need to have practical support from family or friends (for shopping and childcare) for the first week at a minimum.

It is often underestimated how much work and how tiring it is to continue with household chores, especially when combined with the demands of any childcare. All your energy will be needed for the healing process.

It is advised NOT TO LIFT anything heavy and to limit stretching, while your body is healing from any significant surgery.

How Long am I in Hospital for?

You will stay in hospital for one night post-op, on your recovery journey, to monitor you and check that you are comfortable and your surgery has gone as planned.

What Should I do if I am Worried Post-op?

If you have any cause for concern after your surgery such as your dressings being soiled or any increase in pain and/or redness, then you should contact the hospital on the number provided on your discharge notes.

Mr Lambe will also review you in the clinic 2 weeks after surgery and remove your dressings and check your body is healing nicely.

What Follow-ups Will I Need?

Mr Lambe will review you in the clinic 10-14 days post-op and remove the dressings and inspect your wounds. If all is well, then you will usually have a much lighter dressing applied and be given a plan to review your progress after 4 weeks and then 3 months time.

It is important in the post-operative period to avoid anything that rubs or presses on your wounds, and so I ask that you wear soft and supportive garments until I am happy that all wounds have settled nicely.

What Bra Should I Wear Post-op?

If you have had breast surgery, you should wear a soft, comfortable and supportive sports bra, with no underwiring after your surgery. Front-fastening bras are often easier to use after surgery, so you are not stretching behind you when you put your bra on and take it off.

There is a range of recommended support garments, from Macom, which should be discussed and ordered prior to your hospital stay.

What About my Weight Before Surgery?

We recommend that your weight has stabilised before having this form of surgery, to maintain your excellent results, which can change with weight fluctuations.

How Can I Help My Recovery

Once discharged, it is very important to keep yourself mobile, in order to reduce any risk of a blood clot in the legs or lungs, as this is a particular risk after multiple surgeries and spending a longer time in the theatre.

Mr Lambe says “I recommend that you spend at least 15 minutes on your feet every 2 hours, except when you are sleeping!”

You will need to allow for some time off work and, of course, how long depends on the type of job you do. For an office-based job you can return to work after approximately 3 weeks, or perhaps work some reduced hours after 2 weeks. If you have a more active and physical job, then it may help to be moved to a less active role for a short time while you recover.
