Considering breast enlargement is a significant decision, and it’s natural to have many questions. At Reflect Clinic, we believe in providing clear, comprehensive information to help you feel confident and prepared. This guide answers some of the most common questions we receive about breast enlargement surgery, also known as a ‘boob job’.
We’ll cover everything from the procedure itself to recovery and long-term results, giving you the insights you need to take the next step on your journey.
What is a Breast Enlargement?
A breast enlargement, or breast augmentation, is a surgical procedure designed to increase breast size, improve symmetry, or restore volume that may have been lost after pregnancy, childbirth, or weight loss. Our expert breast surgeon, Mr Gerard Lambe, places high-quality implants to achieve your desired shape and size. For some patients, this procedure is combined with a breast uplift (mastopexy) to achieve the best possible result.

How Can I Choose the Right Implant Size?
Choosing the right size is one of the most important decisions. We want you to be delighted with your new shape, which is why we use the latest technology to help you decide. At Reflect Clinic, we use Virtual Reality 3D Visors, this advanced tool allows you to see a virtual representation of how breast implants of various shapes and sizes will look on your own body. This immersive experience helps you make an informed and confident choice that aligns perfectly with your aesthetic goals.
Will I Have Visible Scars?
We understand that scarring is a common concern. During the procedure, Mr Lambe makes a small, discreet incision in the natural fold beneath your breast, where it meets your chest wall. Initially, the scar will appear pink, but over time it will fade to a thin, silvery line that is typically well-hidden. Our surgical team is dedicated to minimising scarring and ensuring the most aesthetic outcome possible.
How Long is the Recovery Period?
Your recovery timeline is an important part of the process. Here’s a general overview of what to expect:
- Time off work: We recommend taking around two weeks off for sedentary roles.
- Driving: You can typically resume driving after about three weeks.
- Exercise: Strenuous exercise should be avoided for approximately eight weeks to allow your body to heal properly.
- Aftercare: You will need to wear a supportive sports bra for six to eight weeks post-surgery to support the implants and aid healing.
Will My Breast Implants Move?
To ensure your implants remain securely in place, Mr Lambe carefully creates a precise pocket for them during surgery. We use textured implants, which are designed to reduce movement after the procedure. This meticulous technique helps to ensure a stable, natural-looking result that you can enjoy for years to come.
How Long Do Breast Implants Last?
The high-quality implants we use are insured for 10 years for legal reasons. However, they are designed to last much longer. As long as you are happy with your results and are not experiencing any issues, your implants can remain in place for many years beyond the initial decade.
Can I Breastfeed After a Breast Enlargement?
Yes, it is perfectly possible to breastfeed after having a breast augmentation. Studies have shown no evidence of an increase in silicone in breast milk, making it a safe option for mothers.
Are the Results Immediate?
You will notice a change straight after surgery, but it’s important to be patient. It is normal to experience some swelling, and it takes time for the implants to settle into their final position. You can expect to see the final, beautiful results of your breast enlargement after about 12 weeks, once all swelling has subsided and the implants have “dropped” into their natural place.
